Back on the Horse!

Here are some photos of Evan and Caitie from last week! Evan is obsessed with pouring water and playing in the sink and in the last four he's taking care of his monkey...taking his temperature and changing diapers!

We are all finally well!! Thank goodness!

It's been exhausting just trying to get the kiddos back on schedule. Caitlin is at a perfect age now to dislike nap time many days (even though she is tired and grouchy!). We have been going around in circles this afternoon. She'll lie there for 20 mins or so and then get mad and eventually I go up to calm her down a bit (mostly so she doesn't wake up Evan). I have to remember now to start teaching her that she needs to nap at nap time and Mommy's not going to pick her up and cuddle with her all afternoon, etc. - I have to keep reminding myself, too!). Hard to believe she'll be 9 months old next week!
It's funny to see a 2 year old mind in action...Evan has all sorts of small irrational fears. He doesn't like to get his haircut all of a sudden (after doing it every 6 weeks for the past year!), he's a little afraid of the dark (so we have to leave the door open a bit at night), he scares himself into thinking the lion or tiger on the wall in Caitlin's room is chasing him and comes running and half crying down the hall to me (then laughs and says if he's caught he'll get a BIG HUG)!! He's a funny kid!

We love the dentist!

On Monday Evan went to the dentist for his checkup. He's been twice before and each time gets progressivley worse. He's excited to go and willingly walks back with the assistant but the minute anyone even suggests looking in his mouth it's all over.

I'm not exaggerating, he screamed and flailed so loudly while the poor girl tried to clean his teeth that THREE other girls came in and one had to stay to comfort Caitlin who was a little scared after hearing Evan's commotion.

When we left Evan had already forgotten all the torture (a balloon and small dinosaur weight helped!) and smiled brightly to all of the ladies.

I can't believe it but when we made his next appointment we also made Caitlin's first. She got her first two teeth last week and Dr Korsten is ready to see her, too!

I'll try to get pictures this week of her cute new smile!

Sickness Abides Here!

It seems like all we've done the past month is deal with one illness after another! I won't bore you with the details of the various colds that the two are passing back and forth!

Evan spent several weeks feeling very irritable and saying his stomach hurt so we finally went to the Dr and he suggested Evan may be lactose intolerant. So, we've cut dairy out of his diet and I can't believe the difference in his attitude. He's happier, more cooperative, less likely to fall apart at the drop of a hat.

Bummer though that now his stomach is feeling better he's got a fever and a bad cough which is of course keeping him from sleeping. We're on night 3 and I'm hoping that he's just so exhausted now he'll be in deep sleep most of the night unable to cough!

I was thinking about the whole "Mom" thing where we feel like we'd trade places with them in an instant so they wouldn't have to feel so awful. For me it's partially self-serving...I can medicate myself much better than I can them. Evan doesn't seem to tolerate decongestants and cough medicine well. It makes him very irritable and hyper so, we can't really give him anything. That means we listen to Grandma's advice...saline spray, vicks, humidifier and lots of water!

Now I have to sit back and HOPE (PRAY) that Caitlin doesn't get it...although I'm sure that's a futile act. We share germs like we share air around here and I can only imagine the sleepless nights ahead for a nursing baby who can't sleep/breathe. She's pretty mellow until she gets tired!
